Rav Moshe Shapira Shiurim

1. Data collection

We collect nothing. The app has no account, no sign-in, and no server of ours holding anything about you. We do not receive your name, your email address, your location, or any record of which shiurim you open, search for or listen to. No analytics, advertising or tracking software is included in the app, and it shares no data with anyone.

2. Network connections

Search and browsing never touch the network. The archive of 966 shiurim — their titles, the topic index, the section headings and the quoted sources — is packaged inside the app, so searching and browsing it are local reads.

Audio. When you play a shiur, or download it to listen offline, the app fetches its recording over HTTPS from cdna.streamgates.net, the server that hosts lehavin.org's audio. The request names the recording and identifies lehavin.org as its source; it carries no personal data and no identifier. Like any request to any web server, it reveals your IP address to that server, which may log it as part of operating its service. A shiur you have downloaded plays from your device with no network request.

Links you open. The app's link to lehavin.org opens in a browser, and sharing a shiur uses your system's share sheet. Both happen only when you choose them, and what you send through the share sheet goes wherever you send it.

3. Data stored on your device

The app keeps, on your device only:

• your listening state — which shiurim you have heard, and where you stopped in each;
• your bookmarks, each with its timestamp and the note you wrote;
• your listening queue and the list of downloaded shiurim, with the downloaded audio files;
• your interface language and the screen you last opened.

None of this is sent anywhere. Deleting a download removes its audio file. Uninstalling the app (on the Mac, moving it to the Trash and deleting its folder in ~/Library/Application Support/app.bdtech.shiurim-shapira/) removes everything.

4. Permissions

iPhone: the app asks for no permissions. It declares background audio, so a shiur keeps playing when the screen locks.

Android: the app requests network access (INTERNET) to fetch the audio; a media-playback foreground service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK) so playback continues in the background; and permission to post notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS), which shows the playback controls on the lock screen and in the notification shade. It does not access your contacts, location, camera, microphone or files outside its own storage.

Mac: the app asks for no permissions.

5. The content

The shiurim and their recordings belong to lehavin.org, and are distributed in this app with the approval of the site's operators and of the Rav's family. The app is free, has no account, subscription or in-app purchase, and so holds no billing information.

6. Third-party services

The app embeds no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking SDK. Its only outside service is the audio server described in section 2, operated for lehavin.org, not by us.

7. Children

The app is suitable for all ages. Because it collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
