PureOpen

1. Data collection

We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information. PureOpen has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no advertising.

We have no servers involved in the operation of this app, so there is nothing for us to receive.

2. Your files

Your documents stay on your device. PureOpen opens the Markdown files you choose — from Finder, from the Files app, from the open dialog, or by dragging them onto the window — and writes your edits back to those same files on disk.

• The app reads and writes only files with a Markdown or plain-text extension. This restriction is enforced in the app's own core, not just its interface.
• The app reads each open file's modification time so it can tell that the file changed on disk under it — for example because another editor or a sync client rewrote it — and reload instead of overwriting someone else's work. Nothing derived from that timestamp leaves your device.
• No copy of your documents is made anywhere outside the location you opened them from.

3. Data stored on your device

PureOpen stores one thing locally: the file paths of the tabs you had open, so the same documents come back the next time you launch it. This is a list of locations, not content, and it stays in the app's own local storage on your device.

To remove it, close all tabs before quitting, or delete the app — uninstalling removes everything PureOpen has stored.

4. Network connections

The App Store and Mac App Store versions make no network connections at all. They contain no HTTP client and no networking libraries, the interface’s content-security policy blocks outbound requests, and the app works identically with the device in airplane mode.

The version downloaded directly from our site is identical except for one thing: it can update itself. To do that it periodically asks storage.bdtech.app whether a newer version exists, and downloads it if you accept. That request carries no identifier and nothing about you or your files — the app’s version, your operating-system version, and your IP address are what any web request necessarily reveals. The first automatic check asks your permission, and you can turn automatic checks off in the update dialog. No other network connection exists in either version.

5. Purchases

PureOpen is free. There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions, so no payment information is ever involved.

6. Third-party services

None. PureOpen bundles no analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting services. Its dependencies are the user-interface and text-editing components it is built from, all of which run locally on your device. The direct-download version additionally bundles Sparkle, the open-source updater described in section 4, which talks only to our own server.

7. Children

PureOpen is suitable for users of all ages. Because it collects no data at all, it collects no data from children.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
