Mail Agent
Last updated: October 13, 2026
The short version: Mail Agent is a tool that runs on your own computer. With your consent it reads your Gmail, adds labels, and prepares draft replies for you to approve — it never sends mail. Your mail is stored only on your computer. BD TECH operates no server for it and receives none of your data. To classify and summarize mail, its content is sent to the Anthropic API under your own API key, and, if you set it up, summaries go to your own Telegram bot.
1. What Mail Agent is
Mail Agent is a command-line tool that you run yourself, on your own computer (macOS, Windows, or Linux), from a private source repository. There are no accounts with BD TECH, and we operate no server involved in running it, so there is nothing for us to receive. It contains no analytics, no telemetry, and no advertising.
2. Google user data it accesses
Mail Agent accesses your Gmail account only after you grant permission through Google's own consent screen. It requests these scopes, and uses each only as described:
gmail.readonly— to read your messages so they can be classified and summarized.gmail.modify— only to add labels to messages. It does not delete messages.gmail.compose— only to create draft replies, and only after you approve a proposed reply. It never sends mail; sending a draft is always your own action in Gmail.
3. Where your data is stored
Everything stays on your computer. Mail Agent keeps a local SQLite database and the reports it generates in the ~/.mail-agent folder in your home directory. The OAuth tokens Google issues are stored locally, in a file readable only by your own user account. Nothing is stored on any server operated by BD TECH.
4. Services your data is sent to
Mail Agent sends data to two services, both under accounts and keys that belong to you:
- Anthropic API (Claude). To classify and summarize your mail and propose replies, the content of your messages — and, where relevant, excerpts of your own project files that you have configured it to use — is sent to the Anthropic API using your own API key. That processing is governed by Anthropic's privacy policy and the terms of your Anthropic account. Messages matched by the ignore rules you define are filtered out locally and are not sent.
- Telegram (optional). If you connect your own Telegram bot for notifications and approvals, mail summaries and the text of proposed replies are sent to that bot. This is off unless you configure it, and is governed by Telegram's privacy policy.
5. Sharing and Limited Use
We do not sell your data, share it with any third party beyond the services above, or use it for advertising. No person at BD TECH reads your mail.
Mail Agent's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is used only to provide the features described on this page, and is not used to develop, improve, or train generalized artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models.
6. Revoking access and deleting your data
- Revoke Mail Agent's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Delete the
~/.mail-agentfolder to remove all locally stored data, including the database, reports, and OAuth tokens.
Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing further for us to delete.
7. Children
Mail Agent is a tool for adults managing their own mailbox and is not directed at children.
